Chess tournament dedicated to the 85th birthday anniversary of Tigran Petrosian

On December 12-13, 2014 the chess tournament for diplomats was organized in Beirut at the AGBU Demirjian Center, which was dedicated to the 85^th birthday anniversary of the 9th world champion Tigran Petrosian. The tournament was organized upon the initiative of the Embassy of Armenia to Lebanon in collaboration with the AGBU-Andranik youth association and with support of the Lebanese Chess Federation.

The tournament was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Armenia in Lebanon Ashot Kocharian, the president of the Andranik youth association Vigen Cherchian and the vice-president of the Lebanese Chess Federation Roland Akhras. The speakers stressed the invaluable role of Tigran Petrosian in development of chess worldwide, presented details of his outstanding successes and rich chess life. A film was featured about Tigran Petrosian. Diplomats and representatives of Embassies and international organizations accredited in Beirut as well as members of the Andranik chess club participated in the tournament.

Michel Karam from the Andranik chess club was announced as the winner of the tournament. In Swiss system tournament he secured 5 points. Ambassador of Armenia in Lebanon Ashot Kocharian and the representative of Bulgarian Embassy Bojcho Stamenov shared 2^nd and 3^rd places with 4.5 points. The winners were awarded with medals of Tigran Patrosian. Special certificates were handed over to all participants of the tournament.
