Armenian tour operators visit to Lebanon

On 15-21 November, 2014 upon the initiative of Lebanese Ministry of Tourism and Embassy of Armenia to Lebanon the delegation of Armenia composed of travel agencies representatives and journalists visited Beirut. On the first day of the visit a meeting was held at the Embassy, where Ambassador of Armenia to Lebanon Ashot Kocharian welcomed the delegation and the general manager of the “White Holiday” travel agency Robert Abiad who was accompanying the delegation.

On November 19 a workshop was organized in Monroe Hotel with participation of Lebanese Minister of Tourism Michel Pharaon and Ambassador Ashot Kocharian. The coordinator and initiator of the visit Robert Abiad delivered his welcome speech. Afterwards the chairman of the union of Armenian tour operators Karine Davoyan introduced the members of delegation, highlighted the main activities of the union and stressed the necessity of reciprocal visits to increase the existing volume of tourism between two countries.

In his speech Ambassador Kocharian emphasized the importance of the visit of the delegation to Lebanon. Ambassador spoke about history, rich heritage, culture, values and traditions of Armenian nation. He expressed hope that the visit will foster development of tourism between two friendly countries. Ambassador noted that the visit takes place on the eve of the 100 anniversary of Armenian Genocide in a country, which parliament, the only legislative body in Middle East, recognized the Armenian Genocide. Expressing his gratitude to Lebanese side for its support Ambassador underlined the existing huge potential between two countries in the spheres of trade, jewelry, tourism, banking , telecommunications etc.

Minister Michel Pharaon highly appreciated current level of relationships between two countries. He emphasized the importance of Beirut-Yerevan-Beirut direct flight operated by the Middle East Airlines, which brings closer two friendly nations and creates favorable conditions for developing tourism. Minister recalled his visit to Armenia in 1999, mentioned constructive role of Armenian community in development of Lebanon, as well as present sufferings of Syrian Armenians. Referring to upcoming events dedicated to the 100 anniversary of Armenian Genocide he noted that Armenian nation has suffered much throughout history and stated that in upcoming functions dedicated to the centennial of the Armenian Genocide not only Armenians but also Lebanese people will participate. On the same day Minister Michel Pharaon hosted a lunch in honor to the Armenian delegation . MPs Jean Ogassapian, Serge Torsarkissian and Sebouh Kalpakian were also present.

During its stay in Lebanon the Armenian delegation accompanied by the  attaché of Armenian Embassy in Lebanon Davit Mirzakhanyan visited cultural cites of Lebanon, Antelias-Armenian Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia,  Anjar - town inhabited by Armenians, Armenian catholic monastery of Bzommar, held meetings with the members of the Lebanon-Armenia Friendship Association and with Lebanese tour operators.
