Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon Arthur Nazaryan visited Armenian

On July 3, 2014 Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Minister of Energy and Water of the Republic of Lebanon of Armenian descent Arthur Nazaryan.

Highly appreciating the traditional friendly ties between Armenia and Lebanon, the head of government said, “As the Prime Minister of Armenia, I will do everything to achieve a breakthrough in bilateral relationship with a view to boosting and strengthening the multisectoral cooperation between our two countries.”

The parties stressed the need to activate bilateral trade and economic cooperation and make a better use of the existing potentialities.

In this regard, the interlocutors found it necessary to intensify the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission that will give a new impetus to economic relations. Hovik Abrahamyan and Artur Nazarian exchanged views on the Middle East developments, commenting on the problems and challenges facing the Armenian community of Lebanon.

The Prime Minister conveyed warm greetings to his Lebanese counterpart, inviting him to visit Armenia at his convenience.
 

 
 

On July 3, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan granted the Boghos Nubar Medal to Lebanese-Armenian public and political figure Artur Nazarian.

 

Artur Nazarian was born in 1953 in Beirut. He received his primary education at the Yervand Demirchian School of AGBU Beirut and continued his studies at the International College in Beirut. In 1973, he graduated from the Department of Textiles and Sciences at the University of Philadelphia as a textile engineer specialist. From 1998 to 2000, Artur Nazarian has served in former Lebanese Prime Minister Selim Hs’s cabinet, holding the office of Minister for Tourism and the Biosphere. Since 2009, he has been a Member of Parliament of Lebanon. He was nominated by the “8 March” political faction. Since February 2014, he has been the Minister for Energy and Water Resources within the cabinet of Prime Minister Tamam Salam and is still a Member of Parliament. Artur Nazarian is also a member of the National Central Committee of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia. Since his early age, he has been a member of the AGBU. Brothers Artur and Levon Nazarian sponsored the renovation of the hall of the St. Nshan Church of Beirut in memory of their parents Garbis and Arek Nazarian. The Nazarians are known for their benevolence, mainly through the AGBU. They have sponsored the construction of the AGBU Beirut’s Levon K. Nazarian School, the hall of AGBU California’s Manoogian-Demirtchian School and several other projects. The building of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Lebanon was obtained under the sponsorship of the Brothers Nazarian.

 

Praising Artur Nazarian’s contributions to the reinforcement and development of the Homeland-Diaspora relations, as well as to the preservation of the Armenian identity in Lebanon, Minister Hranush Hakobyan particularly mentioned: “We are hosting one of the most remarkable Armenians who is the type of the Armenian who sets an example of an Armenian with hope and dedication. He is the type of Armenian that any Armenian wants to be like. Mr. Nazarian’s pro-national activities are invaluable. He always supported Armenian schools and cultural centers in Lebanon and pro-national events with his charities.”

 

Expressing gratitude for the high award, Mr. Nazarian mentioned: “I’m very touched to receive this high award. I believe it is the duty of every successful Diaspora Armenian to provide assistance to Armenia. We can show the world our power through our unity. I would also like to say that Mrs. Hakobyan reaches out to all Armenians with her love and actions.”

 
 
 
 

On the same day Mr. Arthur Nazarian was received be Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Yervand Zakharyan. The sides discussed opportunities and perspectives to strengthening cooperation between two friendly countries, particularly in energetic sphere. 

 

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Armenia to Lebanon Ashot Kocharian attended the meetings.
