The 75th anniversary festival

15 June, 2014

Under the Patronage of H.E. Mrs. Hranush Hakopian, Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, the 75th anniversary festival of Mesrobian College and St. Mesrob scouts took place on Sunday the 15th of June, 2014 in the presence of H.E. Mr. Ashot Kocharian- the Ambassador of Armenia in Lebanon, the President of the Armenian Catholic Schools of Lebanon Mgr. Kevork Yeghiayan, committee and educational representatives, teachers, parents and Mesrobian family members.
The “Dziadzan” choir opened the festival by the anthems of Lebanon, Armenia and Mesrobian College. Mr. Raphael Oumoudian, the president of the Alumni committee, in his speech emphasized that it is impossible to forget the endless efforts and support Mesrobian principals, and teachers have offered to each student. Mr. Oumoudian assured the audience that their memory will be an eternal light in their lives like the torch of the illuminator.
After the speech the first part of the entertainment compiled of the “Havassi” folkloric choir, a group reciting poems, the Dhol and doudoug group, “Shoushi” dance group, and “Tzidzernak” senior’s choir.
H.E. Mrs. Hranoush Hakopian delivered her video speech congratulating Mesrobian for preparing and nurturing students and scouts and preserving Armenian values and Heritage throughout the 75 years of its existence. Minister Hagopian stressed that this would have not been possible without the dedication and the continuous efforts of the administration, teachers, sponsors and parents who deserve high appreciation for keeping the Armenian spirit alive in a country other than Motherland.
The ceremony continued by the performance of “Shoushi” dance group seniors, after which Mr. Avo Karakeshishian the general team leader of the scouts shared his message stating that the most significant purpose of this 75 years old family is to teach Armenian children to be honest, modest, have team spirit and brotherhood, and discipline.
Later the audiences were entertained by the unique performance of St. Mesrob scouts and the Kung fu group, “dance de salon” group and the “Tzidzernak” junior and senior choirs.
The graduate members of “Shoushi” dance group performed the song “Vartavar” as the final show of the festival.
The principal of the college Mr. Gregoire Kaloust closed the festival saying that we must serve the mission of our ancestors- founders of Mesrobian and keep on preserving our heritage. By this we will be supporting not only the Armenians in Bourj-Hammoud, and Lebanon but also the Diaspora. He continued by giving examples of Mesrobain graduates who have reached high positions and statuses. Mr. Kaloust thanked the Minister of Diaspora, the Ambassador of Armenia in Lebanon and all those who constantly support Mesrobian College in its improvement. The principal promised that the coming generations of Mesrobian will be also a source of pride to the college and will have achievements in future.
