Events in Lebanon dedicated to 97TH anniversary of Armenian Genocide

On April 22, 2012, upon the initiative of the youth organization of the Central Body commemoration evening took place in Bikfaya near the monument of the victims of Armenian Genocide.  Among participants were members of the Lebanese Parliament, Armenian Embassy’s staff members, spiritual leaders, heads and representatives of Armenian political parties, NG0-S, youth organizations. Official speeches were accompanied with concert and screening of the film on Genocide.

Upon the initiative of the Armenian Relief organization the visit to the former orphanage Aintura was organized. In 2010, cross stone was erected and the holy mess was conducted in memory of Armenian orphans who died in 1914 in Aintura.

A number of musical events, performances, exhibitions and commemoration evenings has been organized in different Armenian schools and organizations of Lebanon.

On April 24 holy mess and liturgy was conducted in Antelias St. Gregory the Illuminator church.

Wreath and flowers have been laid to the monument of the victims of Genocide. Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia  Aram I delivered his pastoral speech to the gathering. After the ceremony march - protest with participation of  25 thousand people in direction of the Turkish Embassy in Lebanon has launched.

On April 24 in ,,The Daily star,, the interview with the Ambassador of Armenia Ashot Kocharian was published. It was dedicated to 97th anniversary of Armenian Genocide and was called ,,Denial as bad as Genocide,,. Ambassador touched upon the issue of policy of denial by the Turkish Government which is considered as continuation of Genocide, He spoke also about Armenian-Lebanese friendly relations and expressed gratitude to the Lebanese Parliament which recognized Armenian Genocide. Ambassador Kocharian highly appreciated importance of the balanced position of Lebanon relating to Nagorno-Karabagh issue expressed by the Lebanese President General Michel Sleiman in December 2011 in Yerevan. He also spoke about donation of laboratory equipment by the Government of Armenia to 120 Lebanese schools.

On April 25 Remembrance book of the victims of the Armenian Genocide has been opened in the Embassy of Armenia. Officials from the Lebanese Government, MFA, members of Parliament, Ambassadors and Diplomats, scholars and academicians, heads and representatives of political parties, benevolent unions, Armenian organizations signed in the book.  A small exhibition was organized and the film about the Armenian Genocide was screened. Solidarity with Armenian people was expressed on behalf of the Lebanese President through the chief of protocol.

A lot of other commemoration events has been held in different Armenian churches and schools of Lebanon.
