Event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia in Lebanon

On January 28, 2017, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, the Embassy of Armenia in Lebanon and representatives of the Armenian community paid a visit to Sector West Headquarters of UNIFIL based in military compound in Shamaa, South Lebanon. A commemorative event, co-organized by the Embassy, the Armenian contingent of UNIFIL and the Armenian community of Lebanon, was held in the Headquarters. Commander of the peacekeeping mission of Sector West Brigadier General Ugo Cillo, military servicemen of UNIFIL contributing countries participated in the event.
In the course of the official ceremony, the Commander of the 5th Armenian contingent captain Karen Atoyan welcomed the attendees, congratulated the Armenian military servicemen on the occasion of the remarkable anniversary and asked for a minute of silence to pay tribute to those Armenian soldiers who have fallen in the battlefield.
Afterwards, Ambassador of Armenia to Lebanon Samvel Mkrtchian in his speech reflected on a quarter century-long hard, but at the same time glorious path of formation of the Armenian Army. He stressed that the Armenian Army, which first and foremost defends the independence of the Republic of Armenia, is also the embodiment of aspirations of the whole freedom loving Armenian people.
The Ambassador in particular congratulated the Armenian contingent for its appreciable service in the framework of providing international security, thus constantly upholding high reputation of the Republic of Armenia and its Armed Forces.
Then Ambassador Mkrtchian handed certificates of gratitude and souvenirs to Armenian and foreign servicemen.
Pastor of St. Nshan church of the Armenian prelacy of Lebanon Mkrtich Keshishian wished the soldiers peace and safe service and conveyed his blessings to them.
