The President of the Republic of Lebanon Michel Sleiman arrived to Armenia

On December 08, at the invitation of President Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Lebanon Michel Sleiman and Mrs. Wafaa Sleiman arrived to Armenia.

On December 09, President Michel Sleiman visited the Tsitsernakaber Memorial and paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, laid a wreath at the monument and planted a tree at the Alley of Memory.

After the official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the two leaders held a tête-à-tête meeting, which was followed by the negotiations of the delegations in the extended format.

Welcoming the President of Lebanon, Serzh Sargsyan noted that traditional friendly ties of the two peoples require further deepening of bilateral relations.

President Serzh Sargsyan awarded the President of Lebanon with the Order of Honor for his activities aimed at the deepening of the Armenian-Lebanese cooperation.

The President of Lebanon Michel Sleiman awarded President Serzh Sargsyan with the Order of Merit of the highest degree.

The President of Lebanon expressed gratitude for the warm reception and noted that the Lebanese side is striving to elevate bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

President Sleiman stressed the importance of the Armenian-Lebanese community in strengthening the Armenian-Lebanese relations, as well as in the country’s political, economic, cultural, governmental and other areas.

After the negotiations, there took place the ceremony of signing documents aimed at the strengthening and deepening of bilateral cooperation in a number of areas.

In particular, the parties signed the Plan of Action “On Cultural Cooperation for 2012-2014 between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and Government of the Republic of Lebanon”, Memorandum of Understanding “On Cooperation in the area of Nature Protection between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and Government of the Republic of Lebanon”, Agreement between the RA Ministry of Sport and Youth Issues and the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Lebanon “On Cooperation in the area of Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Policy”, Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon on “Reciprocal Recognition of Conformity Certificates”, Protocol “On Cooperation in the area of Standardization between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon”, Memorandum of Understanding between “The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Lebanon”, the Action Plan between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon “On Cooperation in Tourism Area.”

The ceremony of document signing was followed by the joint press conference of the two Presidents.
