Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan welcomed today Lebanon Parliament Speaker Nabih Berry who is in Armenia on official visit.

Welcoming the guest, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visit may promote development of bilateral relationship in different spheres. Tigran Sargsyan noted that Armenian-Lebanese economic ties and trade turnover, in particular, fall short of the two countries’ high-level political interaction. “Progress needs to be made in the field of economy as well. Armenia’s financial sector offers favorable conditions for Lebanese investments. Unfortunately, the Lebanese Prime Minister was unable to visit my country as scheduled earlier. Therefore, I am now reiterating my invitation for him to come to Armenia at his convenience.”

The head of government went on to advise that a business forum is to be held on the sidelines of Mr. Berry’s visit involving businessmen on either who will come together to develop and carry out joint economic projects.

The following spheres were cited as prospective areas of cooperation involving both public and private sectors on either side: light industry, pharmaceutics, jewelry, tourism.

Highlighting the role of the intergovernmental commission in promoting bilateral trade and economic exchanges and deepening relations between the two friendly countries, the parties expressed hope that the commission may resume its proceedings shortly.

In turn, Nabih Berry advised that the Lebanese President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister will be visiting Armenia in the near future As he stated, with a valuable contribution to the development of his country, the Armenian community of Lebanon stands for a strong and reliable bridge between the two countries and peoples.
