On July 18-20, 2015 a number of events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide took place in Lebanon.
On July 18 under the auspices of Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, the museum after Aram Bezikian was inaugurated at the “Birds’Nest” institution of Jbeilcity in memory of those orphans, who survived the Armenian Genocide and found shelter in this institution.
Spiritual leaders and their representatives, all Prelates of Armenian dioceses of the Great House of Cilicia, Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros Rai, representative of the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament of Lebanon, Minister of Culture Raymond Areigi, representative of the President of Armenia, Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Lebanon Ashot Kocharian, representatives of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, director of Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan, the delegate of Holy See, Mayor of Jbeil, various clergy leaders of Lebanon, politicians and cultural figures, a big number of foreign guests were present at the ceremony.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the “Birds’Nest” Seda Hateshian, benefactor Aleko Bezikian, Mayor of Jbeil Ziad Havad, Minister of Culture of Lebanon Raymond Areigi, Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai delivered their opening speeches.
Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobian presented the congratulatory message of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan addressed to His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, on the renovation of the Birds’ Nest and the establishment of the museum, as well as on the 20th anniversary of his enthronement as Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia and the Blessing Ceremony of the Holy Muron. Catholicos Aram I in his concluding speech expressed his gratitude to the attendees, emphasized that their presence in inauguration of the museum is a testimony of support to the struggle of Armenian people.
On the same day at the Saint Mary Armenian Orthodox Monastery of Bikfaya, before the Monument of the Armenian Genocide,a blessing ceremony of Holy Muron,which is held once in 7 years, took place under the chairmanship of Catholicos Aram I.
On July 19 Holy Liturgy and Ecumenical service was rendered under the chairmanship of Catholicos Aram I at the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral in Antelias. In the evening of the same day a concert was held at the Saint Mary Monastery Complex ofBikfaya dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. Lebanese philharmonic orchestra performed works by Komitas, Aram Khachaturian and other famous Armenian composers. Worldwide soprano Hasmik Papian and tenor BarseghTumanian also performed at the event.
On July 20 Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia visited Aintoura, where a monument dedicated to the memory of Armenian children perished in Aintoura orphanage is erected. On the same day Minister Hranush Hakobian accompanied by Ambassador Kocharian had a meeting with Catholicos Aram I in Bikfaya. Issues relating to Armenia-Diaspora collaboration, regional developments and organization of events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial were discussed.
