Event on the occasion of the25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence at UNIFIL

On September 23, 2016 with the sponsorship and support of the Embassy of Armenia, the 25th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia was celebrated in UNIFIL Sector West headquarters in Shaama, South Lebanon.
Ambassador Samvel Mkrtchian had a meeting with the Sector West Commander of UNIFIL Brigadier General Arturo Nitti, who praised Armenian peacekeepers for their service. The interaction of Armenian contingent and Sector West command, as well as broader security issues have been discussed.
During the cultural program, Ambassador Mkrtchian congratulated Armenian soldiers on the 25th Anniversary of Independence of Armenia emphasizing their important mission in helping to provide peace and security in friendly Lebanon. S. Mkrtchian thanked the Italian command for the efforts to make the integration of the Armenian contingent smooth and seamless. He attached importance to such cultural events, which helped peacekeepers from different countries to learn about each other’s history and culture, brought them closer. As a token of appreciation,Samvel Mkrtchian handed over letters of gratitude and souvenirs to Brigadier General Arturo Nitti, Lt Colonel Guiseppe Anecca and 1st Marshal Masala Salvatore for the continuous support to Armenian servicemen in fulfillment of their military duties.
During the evening “Hamazkayin”, “Nor Serund” and “Arin”Armenian ensembles of Beirut were on stage with performances of national music and dance. Armenian food was served.
