Reception in Beirut on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Independence of Armenia

On September 21, 2016 the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Lebanon hosted official reception in Byblos Grand ballroom of Phoenicia hotel on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia. Representative of Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Minister of labor Sejaan Azzi, representative of Lebanese speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, MP Bassem Al Chab, current and former members of Lebanese Government and Parliament, army generals, ambassadors and other representatives of the diplomatic corps of Beirut, Catholicos-Patriarch of Armenian Catholic Church of the House of Cilicia Grigor Petros 20th, Prelate of Armenian Diocese of Lebanon Shahe Bishop Panossian, spiritual leaders representing various churches, leaders and representatives of different structures of the Armenian community participated in the event.
In his speech Ambassador Samvel Mkrtchian spoke about the dream and cherished aspiration of the Armenian people to have an independent state; Armenia regained its independence after being part of the Former Soviet Union for 70 years. He alluded to the history and mentioned the First Republic of 1918-1920, which was a break in the centuries long haul of Armenian people without a state. Ambassador reflected on the hardships the Armenian nation passed through to attain that goal, on the victory of Nagorno Karabagh liberation war, as well as on successes and shortcomings on the way of recovering its economy and building democratic state foundations.
In the context of Armenian-Lebanese friendship, Ambassador Mkrtchian praised Lebanon and the Lebanese people for generous and warm hospitality they have shown to the survived from the Armenian Genocide a century ago. Ambassador thanked the Government of Lebanon and the Lebanese people for their enduring friendship and wished Lebanon to overcome the existing current uncertainties and problems as quick as possible and with the least coast.
During the evening event Armenian and Arabic songs were performed and works of Armenian painters were featured.
