Official reception on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia

On September 22, 2015, an official reception dedicated to the 24th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia took place at the Embassy of Armenia in Lebanon. Prelate of Armenian diocese bishop Shahe Panosian, representative of the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament MP Mohammad Kabani, representative of the Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon Arthur Nazarian, representative of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Ambassador Mira Daher, present and former Ministers and deputies, more than thirty Ambassadors and heads of international organization accredited in Lebanon, leaders and representatives of political parties and confessions, intellectuals, leaders of national structures of Lebanese Armenian community, high ranking military officials, Armenian peacekeeping officers serving in UNIFIL, businessmen and numerous guests were present at the event.

Ambassador of Armenia to Lebanon Ashot Kocharian in his welcoming speech presented the path and achievements of Armenia throughout 24 years of Independence. He spoke about priorities and challenges of Armenia’s foreign policy, as well as various initiatives of Armenia in the areas of peace and security, protection of human rights, restoration of justice which have been supported by the international community. As a vivid example, the Ambassador mentioned the resolution initiated by Armenia entitled “International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of This Crime” which was adopted by consensus at the 69th session of the UN GA on September 11, 2015.

Speaking on bilateral relations Ambassador Kocharian highly appreciated existing high level of political dialogue between Lebanon and Armenia which was reaffirmed this year by the exchange of visits of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lebanon and the visit of the Defense Minister of Armenia to Lebanon. Ambassador stressed the important role of Lebanese Armenian community in strengthening friendly relations between two countries and their people. He referred to commemorative events of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide as well, once again expressing gratitude to the Parliament of Lebanon and Lebanese people as well as Ambassadors present at the evening, whose countries recognized the Armenian Genocide and extended their hand to help Armenians who survived this horrible crime.
